Pablo Sandoval hospitalized in Venezuela with colitis
There was some concern on Wednesday when it was reported that San Francisco Giants star and World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval had been hospitalized in his native Venezuela with abdominal discomfort.
That concern grew a little more on Thursday when we learned Sandoval remained under doctor’s care, but we can rest a little easier now after his brother, Michael Sandoval, updated his condition late this afternoon.

Michael Sandoval tweeted that Pablo had been diagnosed with colitis, but he is expected to return to his Winter League club soon. Sandoval had been playing for Navegantes del Magallanes in the Venezuelan League. According to the club's official twitter account, Sandoval could return to the team within 24 to 48 hours.
I’m going to call this excellent news considering it’s not a more serious longterm health concern and there’s an optimistic timetable for his return to the field. That said, colitis can obviously be a nasty ailment to deal with and fight through depending on the strength of the symptoms, so hopefully those are under control and he‘s well on his way to getting through it as the optimistic update indicates.
The health update also comes on the day Sandoval and Giants teammate Marco Scutaro were named to the provisional roster for Venezuelan’s World Baseball Classic squad. Assuming he returns to good health and full strength in short order, his status for the tournament should be unaffected. Though if he wanted to look for a good reason to get out, this might be it.
