Offseason adventures: Hunter Pence is a wizard at Harry Potter World

The baseball season is over, and that makes us here at The Stew pretty sad. For players, though, it's the one time of year they can relax, go on vacation and do all the crazy stuff they can't do during the season. Some of those players decide to document their adventures, and we'll periodically check in to see how they are celebrating the offseason. Enjoy.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence quietly broke some big news on his Instagram page Tuesday. Turns out, he's the first wizard in baseball. Pence visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter recently, where he revealed he was definitely not a muggle.

Pence was accepted to Hogwarts, though he didn't reveal which house he was sorted into. Pence isn't lame, so we're going to immediately rule out Hufflepuff. He's also not evil (unless you're a Los Angeles Dodgers fan), so Slytherin is out too. Between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor, we'll give the nod to Gryffindor. It's takes courage and guts to stand in the batter's box while facing 90+ mph heat.

Gryffindor also works because Pence reminds us of Neville Longbottom. He might seem awkward and goofy at first, but it turns out he's really darn good at what he does.

After being accepted to the school, Pence obviously had to visit Hogwarts.

Though he is just a first year, Pence, much like Harry Potter, quickly found himself in a dangerous situation.

We're going to assume Pence prevailed, as we're not currently being eaten alive by that dragon. The above photo also gives us our best look at Pence's wand. Is it a replica of one of the characters from the book, or did he opt for a personalized one? Is its core made out of unicorn hair? We have to admit, Pence reminds us of the majestic, magical beast on some of his outfield routes.

So, yeah, it's been a pretty big last couple of days for Pence. He not only found out he was a wizard, but he also defeated a dragon. Compared to that, hitting a 95 mph fastball should come easy now.
