Max Scherzer finds perfect place to celebrate a 20-strikeout game

On Wednesday night, Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer tied a major-league record by striking out 20 Detroit Tigers.

In doing so, Scherzer joined elite company, becoming just the fourth member of the 20-strikeout club along with Roger Clemens, Kerry Wood and Randy Johnson. We'll include Johnson here, although his outing carries an asterisk because that game went into extra innings.

Regardless, it's an exclusive club, and now that Scherzer belongs to it he decided to celebrate at the most fitting intersection possible right in downtown Washington D.C.

That's the intersection of 20th and K Street. It's a real intersection about two blocks east of Washington Circle, and it's pretty cool that Scherzer decided to commemorate his historic outing by posing for a picture right there.

Of course, it would be even cooler if someone decided to temporarily rename or dedicate the intersection to Scherzer to honor his outing. Even if they just hang a sign of acknowledgment, that would work too. Then Scherzer would have bragging rights over guys who merely share a name with a street, like Huston Street, for example. He'd even have bragging rights over Vin Scully, who had a street leading to Dodger Stadium named in his honor.

A street is but one road leading in one or two directions. An intersection means endless possibilities, which is also what Scherzer's immense talent means every time he takes the baseball.

Then again, if Scherzer helps lead Washington to its first World Series championship, he might do better than intersection. How does a monument sound?
