Marlins Gonna Marlin: Giancarlo Stanton heads to disabled list with hamstring injury

UPDATE: An MRI reveals Stanton's hamstring injury is a Grade 2. MLB.com's Joe Frisaro says in the best-case scenario, Stanton will be out three-to-four weeks.

ORIGINAL POST: Just when slugger Giancarlo Stanton had figured out how to hit home runs again, he's hitting the disabled list for a 15-day stint after injuring his right hamstring running to first base Monday night.

This being the Miami Marlins we're talking about, let's all just be happy that Stanton didn't hurt himself doing something silly like taking out the garbage. That would have been a hella Marlin thing to do. The good news: this latest Miami mishap has nothing to do with owner Jeffrey Loria — unless he shrunk himself, traveled inside Stanton's body and plucked that hammy, which we're pretty sure didn't happen, but you never know with that guy.

Stanton's injury is proof, though, that even fate is being mean to the Marlins. After not hitting a home run in his first 65 at-bats of the season, Stanton hit three home runs in two days leading up to Monday's game.

On Sunday alone, he went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and raised his slugging percentage from .299 to .414. Then a day after giving the hapless Marlins and their poor fans something to get excited about, he went 0-for-5 on Monday and injured himself. Whammy!

Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports the Marlins have called up Marcell Ozuna, a 22-year-old who has only played 10 games in Double-A, but thus far hit five homers and drove in 15 runs. Nobody on the Marlins big-league roster has those numbers this season. Not even Stanton.

So congrats, Marcell, you're now the Marlins best player.

Baseball is back. Don't miss anything.
