Marlins Park cake features working roof

Just when I was preparing to be impressed with an Easter weekend full of cakes shaped like lambs, along comes this monstrosity that was commissioned by Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria for the opening of Marlins Park. Created by Divine Delicacies — yep, the same folks who bake for stars noted for their understated taste (ie: Lebron James and Pitbull) — the cake featured a working retractable roof and a Marlins logo featuring 3,600 Swarovski crystals.

All I can say is nice cake, boss. (Now please read this further description of the decorative dessert while I excuse myself to fetch a glass of milk.)

From the Miami New Times:

Divine Delicacies was notified in advance that it would be presented in Loria's suite for his 50 VIP guests. It was made with red velvet, guava cream cheese, vanilla rum, and marble chocolate batters. And if four different flavors in one cake weren't extravagant enough, the cake's ballpark top even had a retractable ceiling ... "It took us two weeks just to work on the sugar parts of the cake," said Divine Delicacies director of sales, Laura Candeau, "and two days for the bottom cake part."

Sadly, it doesn't look like the crazy home run sculpture made the cut on the inside.

Also unfortunate: The Marlins can't hit a home run out of this one, either.
