Mark Teixeira makes one-night-only appearance in ‘Rock of Ages’ on Broadway

Here's a lighter story for fans of the New York Yankees to digest in the wake of the Alex Rodriguez news from the past 48 hours.

Since 1980 — when he was born, of course — all Mark Teixeira has wanted to do — aside from destroy fastballs — is rock.

On Tuesday, he finally got that opportunity, joining the cast of Broadway hit production “Rock of Ages” for a special one-night cameo appearance. And let’s just say the Yankees slugging and slick fielding first baseman fit right in with the group, looked the part he was assigned, made quite a impression and, by all accounts, had the time of his life.

Take a look.

It also sounds like if there was a Tony Award for one-night-only Broadway performance by a New York Yankee, Teixeira would have a strong chance to be nominated.

Here’s what Lindsay Champion of Broadway.com had to say:

If you thought Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was skilled on the field, you should see him rock out onstage! Teixeira made his Broadway debut on January 29 in the ‘80s jukebox hit Rock of Ages alongside show stars Justin Matthew Sargent as Drew and Kate Rockwell as Sherrie. Teixeira made a special one-night-only cameo as Mark, a bartender at the musical’s fictional L.A. hotspot, the Bourbon Room. Teixeira, who is a huge fan of both Broadway and ‘80s rock music, had a blast performing onstage at the Helen Hayes Theatre.

Unfortunately, we've yet to see video of Teixeira’s time on stage. Which is really too bad, because although he didn’t perform a solo, we understand he did participate in a number of group performances, including his walk-up song "I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister.

If you ask me, that latter number alone would be worth the price of admission.
