The Juice: Cameron Maybin robs Dodgers’ Matt Kemp of home run, Yankees back in front

In the game: Just because your team is out of the race, it doesn't mean you can't get in on the pennant race fun! That was the approach Wednesday night of San Diego's Cameron Maybin, whose takeoff and catch stole a home run that was on approach from Matt Kemp. "Daddy Long Arms," Padres announcer Dick Enberg calls Maybin. It was they key moment in a 4-3 victory against the Dodgers in L.A. Left-hander Tommy Layne retired Adrian Gonzalez for the final out. Up the coast the Giants fell 6-2 to the D-backs, with Trevor Cahill taking a no-hitter into the seventh, helping to keep the NL West race still for another night.
See? Everything's fine: The Yankees are back in first place in the AL East by themselves after beating the Rays 6-4. A costly error by Tampa Bay's Elliot Johnson handed a two-run lead to the Yanks, who also got a home run by Russell Martin to help the cause. And the Yankees Empire was panicking. Panic, schmanic! Speaking of surprising offense, the Blue Jays got a home run and three RBIs from Rajai Davis to help beat the Orioles 6-4 and knock them out of first.
Sweep from heaven: The Angels needed a big series at Oakland to jump-start themselves in the pennant race, and they came away with a sweep. Angels slugger Torii Hunter drove in three runs and the Angels literally knocked Brandon McCarthy from the game in a 7-1 victory. Erick Aybar hit a line drive off McCarthy's head, sending the right-hander to the hospital, where he's doing OK but still under observation. The Angels outscored the A's 21-5 over three games and closed within 2 1/2 games in the wild-card race.
'Meh' Minor: Atlanta's Mike Minor wasn't majorly blown away with his part in a 1-0 blanking against Colorado. Minor was strong in holding the Rockies to one hit over seven innings.
''I kind of just dodged them, I guess,'' he said. ''To me, it wasn't one of my best starts, but on paper it looks good.''
What's he like after a loss? Craig Kimbrel got four outs, all on strikes, for his 33rd save.

Three Facts for the Water Cooler
• Chicago's Jake Peavy allowed a run over six innings in a 6-2 victory against the Twins. White Sox starters came in with a 7.47 ERA over the previous eight outings. Oh, Alex Rios hit a grand slam and a two-run homer.
• R.A. Dickey picked up his 18th victory and the Mets beat the Cardinals 6-2. The Mets hadn't had an 18-game winner since Frank Viola and Dwight Gooden in 1990.
• The Mariners beat the Red Sox 2-1, getting to 67 victories with 24 games remaining on the schedule. They won 67 all of last season.
