Giancarlo Stanton continues hitting home runs to ballpark concession areas

Last weekend Giancarlo Stanton hit a 484-foot home run to the Budweiser bar at Marlins Park that we thought might go unchallenged as the longest home run all season.

Seven days later, Stanton's mark still stands, but barely. Atlanta Braves outfielder Justin Upton crushed a 477-foot home run at Turner Field on Thursday night. A home run so impressive, Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia could only throw his glove in despair immediately afterwards. And on Saturday night in Philadelphia, some kid hit a home run estimated at 469 feet by ESPN's Hit Tracker, which landed somewhere in the crowd gathered at Tony Luke's restaurant located on Ashburn Alley at Citizens Bank Park.

Oh, right, that kid was Giancarlo Stanton.

To quote Marlins play-by-play man Rich Waltz: "Last week it was Budweiser, tonight, cheese steaks!"

Indeed, if Stanton was on Foursquare — or whatever the new popular social media check-in app is — he'd be the mayor of the concessions.

Talk about immense power and a strong start to the season. In less than two weeks, Stanton has topped 469 feet twice. For the entire 2013 season, only eight home runs total bested that mark, so maybe we're entering a season that will feature several awe-inspiring blasts to places we never thought could be reached.

Or, maybe Stanton is just locked in right now. In his next at-bat on Saturday night, he lined a two-run homer down the left field line off reliever Justin De Fratus to tie the game up. It was one of those nights where every time Stanton swings, you cringe or jump to your feet depending on your loyalties. And unless your team is playing against the Marlins, your loyalties lie with Stanton.

But only Stanton, because despite his heroics, the Marlins would lose their sixth straight 5-4 in 10 innings on Jimmy Rollins walkoff homer. Nobody has time for that. Not even the fans in the Miami.
