Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis became a good Samaritan on Tuesday afternoon after encountering a serious traffic accident along southbound Interstate 295. An Orioles fan named Mike Soukup sent the details to reporter Roch Kubatko of MASN. The fan says Davis helped to lift an overturned pickup truck that had thrown one person from it and had another pinned underneath it.

Keep in mind that Major League Baseball sacked Chris Davis for amphetamines, and not some kind of Incredible Hulk gamma radiation steroid strength drugs, when it suspended him for 25 games recently.

Soukup, Davis and others were among the first drivers who had pulled over to help after the accident happened, and the situation was tense. People were bleeding, gasoline was leaking and it was going to take more helpers to roll the heavy truck and un-pin the man trapped underneath it. After a few moments, a group of eight or nine was successful in righting the vehicle and freeing the man.

Here's your headline: "Suspended slugger a Samaritan in saving suffering soul stuck subsequent to smash-up."

From the School of Roch:

"When I turned to look at the first [helper], I instantly noticed a VERY strong resemblance to Chris Davis. He didn't have any Orioles gear on (so I wasn't sure .. there was no big "19" on him anywhere!), except his tennis shoes were black and orange.

"We glanced at each other with a "good job" look and I said, 'Chris?' He said, 'Yeah?' 'Chris Davis?' 'Yeah?' I said, 'One hell of a way to meet Chris Davis ... and by the way, I think they screwed you over big-time and I support you 100 percent.' He said 'Thanks, it really means a lot to hear that," and was very sincere about it.

"He also said he was RIGHT in back of the truck when it had a tire blow-out and swerved, hit the wall and rolled."

Soukup said he thought about asking for an autograph, but decided it would be tacky. He did jump on the phone and tell his wife about how he had just met her favorite Orioles player.

It's unlikely that Davis's suspension will run out before the World Series. It depends on how many games the Orioles need to play before getting there — if they get there. So, when you remember Chris Davis and his 2014 season and his suspension, try to remember him being a good Samaritan, too. It gives a more complete picture of what kind of person he is.
