Brandon McCarthy tweets! Great post-surgical sign from pitcher still in danger

Maybe we will look back at the tweet he sent early Saturday morning as the moment Brandon McCarthy started to emerge from the woods. McCarthy, who "absolutely" remains in a life-threatening situation according to the Oakland Athletics trainer, made his first public comment since he had surgery to correct the bleeding that was putting pressure on his brain:

Any kind of communique works, but a humorously drugged-out/"Arrested Development"-related tweet is the best kind coming from the usually thoughtful McCarthy, as Hardball Talk pointed out. And he sounds pretty good for a guy who took a line drive off the right side of his head that also caused a brain contusion and skull fracture Wednesday, as reported in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Though his wife (who also is on Twitter) has been saying encouraging things the past few days, McCarthy's injuries have had anybody who knows of him quite scared. But his sense of humor is there. That's the best sign we can hope for right now.
