Arizona Fall League players warm up in Halloween costumes

Halloween fever was everywhere on Friday. Even Salt River Field, where the Scottsdale Scorpions and Salt River Rafters were preparing to square off in an Arizona Fall League game.

Hours before the game's first pitch, cameras caught several players taking the field in costume, not uniform, for their warm up routine. It turned the usually well-coordinated, yet mundane practice into something all together bizarre, yet infinitely more enjoyable for the players.

All of your favorite superheroes were represented. Superman, Batman, whose glove work is second to none, and even Robin. There was also a banana, a cowboy, a farmer, and, of course, an overgrown baby. Any team in costume has to have one of those.

Perhaps the best costume was a Roger Federer inspired getup. Not just for originality, but for creative use of props as his tennis racket became a substitute for his throwing arm while practicing his double play turns.

That's embracing the spirit of Halloween and living the gimmick full force.

Eventually, the players all changed into their usual work attire for a game that was broadcast on MLB Network. Salt River won the game 8-6 despite the struggles of Houston Astros 2013 No. 1 overall pick Mark Appel. In four innings, Appel allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks.
