A.J. Burnett to wear Batman-inspired cleats at All-Star game

Like the Oscars and Golden Globes, the MLB All-Star game is an event where fashion statements are made and remembered forever.

Alright, that might be a slight exaggeration, but over the years we've definitely seen our share of statements made. Particularly when it comes to footwear.

Who could ever forget Bryce Harper and Melky Cabrera going gold and orange respectively at the 2012 All-Star game?

Well, this year will be no different, as we've learned that Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star A.J. Burnett will be sporting a pair of custom-made Batman cleats from 3N2.

In what may come as a surprise to many, this is Burnett's first All-Star selection during his 17-year career. It will also be his last, as Burnett has already expressed his to retire following the 2015 season. That means if he finally gets to make that elusive All-Star appearance on Tuesday, he's going to do it his way all the way.

From the 3N2 press release:

"Self expression is important to me," says Burnett. "When I'm on the mound I want there to be no mistaking who I am and what I'm out there to do. 3N2 has given me the freedom to fuse my personality with my game."

Burnett wouldn't be the first player to wear Batman cleats during a game this season. Houston Astros rookie right-hander Lance McCullers sported his own during his major-league debut against the Oakland A's on May 18. That turned out to be a one-time deal, however, after MLB sent McCullers a warning letter for violating uniform regulations.

Chances are it will be a one-time deal for Burnett as well. But there's no better stage or better time to do it.
