Denmark, led by Winnipeg Jets top prospect Nikolaj Ehlers, has become the sentimental favourite of the tournament, as the team from a nation with fewer than 4,000 registered hockey players has made the medal round for the first time. Canada, paced by Sam Reinhart's club-high eight points in the round-robin, was an unblemished 3-0-0-0 while winning Group A.

Zach Fucale, who allowed one goal in two starts during the preliminaries, will start in goal.

"We just have to keep the mindset, play the Canadian way — hard and fast, no letup no matter  who [the opponent] is," Team Canada forward Nick Paul, an Ottawa Senators prospect, said on Friday morning. "I   think that is what everyone has bought into here ... the transition [from being based in Montreal to Toronto] has gone really well. Being in the Leafs dressing room has taken away some of the nervousness from the guys, although there's still some nerves."

The winner faces either Czech Republic or Slovakia in the semifinal on Saturday.
