No. 1 Star: Nikolaj Ehlers, Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL)

The Winnipeg Jets first-round pick made came up big for the Mooseheads when they needed it against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. It all started when he scored a short-handed marker at the 14:24 mark in the second period to give Halifax a 3-2 lead. After setting up a Danny Moyniahn (2G-1A, +3) goal later in the frame, Ehlers really came to life in the final 20 minutes as he put together a four-point period. He scored just seven seconds into the frame and later assisted a second Moyniahn goal before netting a pair of goals, one being an empty-netter, in the final two minutes of the 8-5 contest.

Ehlers, 18, has been a scoring machine in his second major junior season. He has 11 points in his last two games and 32 points throughout 11 November matches.

No. 2 Star: Tim Wieser, Sherbrooke Phoenix (QMJHL)

The Switzerland native will be in Acadie-Bathurst Titan goalie Jacob Brennan’s nightmares tonight. He scored three straight goals on him within the first 15 minutes of the game to give the Phoenix a commanding lead. The Titan weren’t able to rebound from the three-goal deficit as Sherbrooke took the contest 5-0. It is worth noting that six different teammates notched assists on Wieser’s goals as it clearly shows that he makes the players around him better.

Wieser, an undrafted 19-year-old, has been on fire this year with 27 goals and 40 points in 26 games. It’s safe to say that the 5-foot-7, 161-pound winger will at the very least get an NHL camp at the end of this year if he keeps up his scoring production.

No. 3 Star: Evan Cormier, North Bay Battalion (OHL)

Cormier posted his first OHL shutout as the Battalion beat the Owen Sound Attack 3-0. The 18-year-old rookie really came up big for North Bay in the third period with a 16-save effort following stopping 14 pucks through the first 40 minutes.

Colorado Avalanche defensive prospect Kyle Wood scored the crucial first goal of the game on the power play in the second period. Mike Baird gave the Battalion some breathing room by sniping one of his own just 27 seconds into the final frame.

Honourable mentions: Tommy Villeaux, Angelo Miceli, Gabriel Gagne, Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)

Only in the QMJHL does one see three players on the same team net three goals apiece. That was exactly the case tonight for Villeaux, Miceli and Gagne in an 11-1 win over the Val-d’Or Foreurs. They padded their stats sheets by exploiting the Foreurs’ puck-stopping problems. Miceli and Gagne each scored one of their three markers on the man advantage while Villeaux potted all three of his goals on five-on-five action.

St. Louis Blues draft pick Samuel Blais notched three helpers with two of them being on Miceli goals. Chase Marchand, meanwhile, did his job in the blue paint by turning away 24 pucks.

Potent notables: Belleville Bulls goalie Charlie Graham turned aside 33 of 34 pucks in a 3-1 win over the Erie Otters… Jordan Tkatch (2G-1A) came up big for the Prince Albert Raiders in a 6-3 loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings… overage Matt Bellerive (2G-1A, +2) helped the Vancouver Giants beat the Calgary Hitmen 6-3… Scott Feser notched a goal and two helpers as the Red Deer Rebels beat the Swift Current Broncos 6-2… Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Tristan Jarry stopped 49 of 52 shots in a losing effort as the Edmonton Oil Kings fell 3-2 to the Medicine Hat Tigers in overtime… Daniel Wapple turned aside 27 of 28 pucks for the Regina Pats in a 3-1 win against the Kelowna Rockets… Luke Philip (1G-2A, +2) helped the Kootenay Ice knock off the Seattle Thunderbirds 5-2.
