Top NHL draft prospect Leon Draisaitl has sick hat trick for P.A. Raiders (VIDEO)

Leon Draisaitl has a nickname that deserves to go national, particularly after his big night on Tuesday: the Deutschland Dangler.

The top NHL draft prospect was wholly worthy of that splendid sobriquet coined by Prince Albert Raiders play-by-play voice Drew Wilson, scoring a hat trick during a 5-2 win over rival Swift Current. All three goals, even an empty-netter that included a toe drag, were fairly outstanding.

Draisaitl came in riding the depths of a nine-goal goal drought. But NHL Central Scouting's second-ranked North American skater, who will likely become the highest German draft pick in the big league's history, came alive after P.A. fell behind Swift 2-1 in the second period. Midway through the frame, he swooped down his off wing by the Broncos' veteran defender Dillon Heatherington, a Columbus Blue Jackets second-rounder, and protected the puck from Eetu Laurikainen's poke check before scoring.

Midway through the third, Draisaitl took a short pass while coming out of his defensive zone, then worked a perfect 2-on-1 with Winnipeg Jets first-rounder Josh Morrissey that ended with Laurikainen sliding helplessly out of the net while Draisaitl tapped it in.

In other words, Erich Kühnhackl's throne as the German Gretzky could be challenged some day. Chances are, Draisaitl could join the short list of players who played in a world junior and worlds in the same year by joining Germany after Prince Albert completes its season.
