Team Canada getting Anthony Duclair from New York Rangers for world junior
Just like that, Team Canada will have another potent stick for the top of its lineup at the world junior championship.
Nineteen-year-old Anthony Duclair has not been in the New York Rangers lineup since Nov. 29 and has not played more than 14 minutes on any night in more than six weeks. On Tuesday, via the New York Post's Larry Brooks, the Rangers made it official that the erstwhile Quebec Remparts graduate is going to be loaned to Team Canada, bringing its preliminary roster to 30 players.
UPDATE: The New York Rangers have officially announced Duclair will be loaned.

Once Duclair is officially loaned to Team Canada, believed tmw, #NYR will get relief on cap hit for duration of time he's not with club...

Duclair was one of Canada's most impressive performers during the summer development camp held in his hometown of Montreal
Ultimately, with Duclair having been in the press box for the past 10 days, this was an easy call for the Rangers. The speedster needs to play, bar none, and this allows the NHL team to further defer whether it's best for him in the long term to be spotted at the pro level or return to the Memorial Cup host Quebec Remparts, who are guaranteed of playing in late May. (With the moves the Remparts have made recently, getting Duclair in January would be seem really unfair.)
Hockey Canada is also leaving a light on, so to speak, for two other 19-year-olds, the Ottawa Senators' Curtis Lazar and Vancouver Canucks' Bo Horvat. Each has fared better than Duclar at staying in the lineup, although a cursory observation is that Lazar, who's goal-less in 23 games for the Sens, could do with a shot of confidence by playing in the world junior. That's just one opinion, though.
