Sunday’s 3 Stars: O’Brien retakes QMJHL scoring lead in Titan’s OT win

No. 1 star: Zach O'Brien, Acadie-Bathurst Titan (QMJHL)

The Tic-Tac-Toe Line, as the Matthew Bissonnette-Sébastien Trudeau-Zach O'Brien line has been dubbed, combined to hit double digits in points for the second game in a row while leading the Titan to a 6-5 overtime win over the Gatineau Olympiques. O'Brien had two goals and two assists, giving him a league-best 37 markers and 77 points. The Titan started slowly and were down 3-1 at one point, but O'Brien stepped it up and both his goals were go-ahead markers. Bissonnette, who's also in the top five in league scoring, scored the overtime winning goal.

No. 2 star: Alex Petrovic, Red Deer Rebels (WHL)

The Florida Panthers prospect had an excellent all-around game to help the Rebels upend the top team in their conference with a 4-3 road shootout win over the Edmonton Oil Kings. Petrovic, 19, had two assists in regulation time and had a beautiful shootout conversion against goalie Laurent Brossoit in the third round of the shootout when a miss would have sealed the extra point for Edmonton. Colten Mayor got the winner two rounds later.

No. 3 star: Ian Watters, Brampton Battalion (OHL)

The overage forward continued his tear that began when he returned from wrist surgery last month, scoring two goals in a 6-2 Battalion rout over the Oshawa Generals. The Battalion's team-oriented game makes it hard for anyone to be individual standout, but Watters is overdue for some attention since he has five goals and 10 points in six games since rejoining the lineup. Phoenix Coyotes prospect Phil Lane also had a three-point game for the Battalion, including a pretty goal off a great pass through traffic by 17-year-old Patrick Machac.

Honourable mention: Mark Scheifele, Barrie Colts (OHL)

The Winnipeg Jets first-rounder is Scheifeling once again. Scheifele had his first hat trick of the season, including back-to-back goals in the final 3 1/2 minutes that vaulted the Colts to a 5-3 win over the decidedly last-place yet determined Kingston Frontenacs 5-3. Scheifele, who had four points and was a plus-4, pretty much put the Colts on his back to help them put down a challenge from coach Todd Gill's tough-out Kingston team. Is it ironic that he scored a hat trick against Igor Bobkov, who was in goal when Russia beat Team Canada at the world junior last season?

Honourable mention: Petr Mrazek, Ottawa 67's (OHL)

The Mrazician picked right up where he left off while being named top goaltender at the world junior, logging a 29-save shutout in his first start back during Ottawa's 4-0 win at Mississauga. The 67's badly outplayed the Majors, so it was not too taxing an outing for the Detroit Red Wings prospect, but he showed little sign of a world junior hangover.

Potent notables — Plymouth Whalers G Scott Wedgewood stopped 29-of-30 shots in his first start since returning from the world junior ... Ottawa's Tyler Toffoli scored his OHL-best 33rd goal. Teammate Sean Monahan hit the 25-goal plateau .... In the QMJHL, Montreal Canadiens blueline prospect Morgan Ellis had his third multi-point game in a row since being traded to Shawinigan, leading the Cataractes to a 4-2 win over Victoriaville.
