‘Sons of Anarchy’ cast signing OHL goalie Tyson Teichmann’s mask after team turfed tribute

Kibosh and a beauty. No doubt Tyson Teichmann is delighted that he couldn't control this rebound.

Whatever one thinks about what's appropriate for a junior hockey goalie to wear on a mask, the Teichmann and the Kitchener Rangers have got more attention for nixing his Sons of Anarchy homage than they would have if he had worn it in a game. Last Saturday, Rangers beat writer Josh Brown of the Waterloo Record wrote of how the 20-year-old goalie and the Ontario Hockey League wrote of how Teichmann and his team had agreed it was "probably not the smartest to put a biker gang on the helmet even though it's a TV show."

One thing led to another. On Sunday, actor Theo Rossi, who plays Juan Carlos 'Juice' Ortiz on SOA, tweeted out a link to a blog post calling attention to the deep-sixed design.

Teichmann noticed later that day and tweeted back asking Rossi if it possible to get the show's cast to sign the mask he wore last season with the Mississauga Steelheads.

It goes without saying that this speaks to how the world keeps getting smaller. Credit Teichmann for acting on impulse when he happened to check Twitter. And Rossi's people saw an opportunity to take control of the story and connect with their loyal fans. The Rangers refusing to allow the mask, after all, tapped into everyone's inner rebel.

From Josh Brown (@BrownRecord):

The 20-year-old had that mask last year while playing for the Steelheads and has been wearing it during pre-season play while his new Kitchener bucket is being painted.

"I'm going to be shipping the helmet off to Beverly Hills this week to get signed by him and hopefully some of the other actors," said Teichmann.

The Belleville native was shocked when the original Tweet hit his account Sunday night. Rossi's assistant phoned soon after.

"It was after dinner," he said. "I just ate and was looking through my Tweets and passed it. I didn't think anything of it. Then I went 'holy crap.' It was pretty cool. It's weird that it got noticed all the way out there by him." (Waterloo Record)

The outcome is not so far-fetched in light of how of different communications platforms can put entertainers and fans on the same footing. Talk about an auspicious start to Tyson Teichmann's final season in the OHL.
