Singer Mark Donnelly trips over red carpet while singing 'O Canada' on skates — continues like a champ

Tripping over a red carpet while wearing skates and a tuxedo might be the most Canadian thing, ever.

Until you have tried to sing the national anthem while skating and wearing a tight cummerbund, you are no position to laugh at the pratfall Vancouver Canucks anthem singer Mark Donnelly took during his performance at a Junior A game on Friday night.

Really? Really. The Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League hired Donnelly to sing O Canada before their home opener on Friday. In February 2013, the vocalist skated around the darkened arena while performing the anthem before a Vees game and it went off without a hitch. Only this time, since there was all the pomp and circumstance that comes with a home opener, there was a red carpet laid out on the ice, which might have been difficult to see with the lights turned down and only a spotlight for illumination.

On their YouTube channel, the Vees referred to it as a "barrel roll." And it looks like Donnelly barely missed a beat before doing his trademark pass off to let the crowd sing a verse.

Call that a small price to pay for outstanding showmanship. Donnelly, of course, lost 172 pounds in 2011-12. Skating and singing at the same time sets a great example about the value of health and fitness.

As they say, ice is slippery.

Donnelly did not have a red carpet to deal with during his previous performance at a Vees game.
