QMJHL game called early after linesman ruins portion of the ice
Officiating mistakes and controversies are as much a part of hockey as goals, saves, and faceoffs. But what we saw in Friday night’s QMJHL game between the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Charlottetown Islanders was a special kind of refereeing snafu.
The Islanders were leading 5-2 with 4:30 minutes left to play in the third when the game was halted due to a minor issue with the ice just inside the blueline. A portion of the sponsorship logo applied to the ice had become unstuck, making it unsafe for the players.
And that's when the linesmen made a mess of the situation. In an attempt to be the hero handyman, one of them began clipping away at the damaged logo with scissors. The other then pulled a big part of the logo off the ice, which somehow made matters even worse.
After a quick inspection by Charlottetown's ice guru, it was apparent the problem couldn't be solved quickly, leaving the officials no choice but to call the game.
That's it. The refs have suspended the game due to ice problems.

ISLES WIN! The league officially calls the game and awards the two points to Charlottetown.

As if calling a hockey game wasn't already tough enough.
