P.E.I. Rocket share hilarious outtakes from their playoff pump-up video

Motivational videos using a junior hockey team's players are pretty standard — somber young men looking intensely into the camera, delivering something deep and profound like "it's our time."

What one usually doesn't see is how many takes it took to get it right. The P.E.I. Rocket, fortunately for us all, have a sense of a humour and shared some of the outtakes with players such as goalie Antoine Bibeau (who had the dressing room lights turned out while delivering his line), defenceman Jimmy Oligny, right wing Patrick McGrath and centre Ben Duffy, who led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in points this season.

The topper is probably Duffy tripping up on saying his own name: "My's name's ..." and then blanking on it. Hey, talking on camera takes practice.

Duffy, of course, has let his game do the talking. The Lower Sackville, N.S., native's 110-point season established a new record for the P.E.I. franchise, which is changing its moniker from Rocket to Islanders. He and fellow Maritimer Josh Currie, who also scored more than 100 points, pulled the P.E.I. up from dead last in the league to finishing in the top half of the tables this season. All this came after Duffy's grandfather and inspiration died before the season.

From Andrew Rankin:

Duffy likely wouldn’t be playing in the QMJHL much less be its top scorer this year if not for his grandfather Bob Lake.

It wasn’t only that he footed the bill for most of the now 21-year-old’s minor hockey expenses, but he was his rock, always providing inspiration and knowing exactly what to say during the difficult times.

"He was a big part of my life and my hockey career," said Duffy, who is from Lower Sackville. “I wouldn’t be where I am without him."

... "To have the season I’ve had after dedicating it to my grandfather feels really special." (Metro Halifax)

So in no way is this meant to poke fun, but to acknowledge Duffy's pretty smooth in his chosen discipline, hockey. (If you really want to see someone who has no idea how to talk on camera, watch the guy with the towel around his neck at about the the 8:33 mark in this video.)

That's the spirit of the thing, and now the Rocket hope to play well into the spring. When it comes to player videos, no one has ever topped Conor O'Donnell doing the sprinkler during his turn with the Windsor Spitfires. O'Donnell now plays for the Nipissing Lakers in Ontario University Athletics.
