The Oshawa Generals and Peterborough Petes have always feuded. It's just what they do, because rivalry. So when pushing and shoving broke out early in the second period of the teams' divisional showdown on Thursday, the officials were quick to try to defuse the situation.

Separating the skaters was a priority. But that allowed the goalies, Oshawa's Daniel Altshuller and Peterborough's Andrew D'Agostini, to make eye contact, get past that awkward stage and soon enough, they were was a honest-to-goodness goalie fight at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

That was one of seven fights during the game, which had 42 penalties for 106 minutes, not counting the numerous misconducts. Any goalie who leaves the crease during an altercation in the OHL is automatically suspended for two games, plus each gets a third game for taking off his helmet.

Oshawa's Justice Dundas and Peterborough's Clark Seymour will be shelved for engaging in the second fight during the same stoppage of play. That means all four will miss the teams' rematch in Oshawa on Sunday.

The TV Cogeco commentators noted Petes coach Jody Hull looked upset while D'Agostini was fighting. The overage netminder was making his 15th consecutive start and his backup, Jason Da Silva, had yet to play a single minute since being acquired just prior to the Jan. 10 OHL trade deadline. The Generals greeted Da Silva by scoring just 14 seconds after play resumed, but Da Silva finished with 19 saves on 21 shots in a 4-3 Petes shootout victory. What a way to debut with a new team.
