Massive bodycheck in Junior A game by Carleton Place Canadians’ Elias Ghantous (VIDEO)

If there has been a better old-time booming bodycheck lately than this one that Elias Ghantous delivered in a Central Canada Hockey League game last Friday, well, it has not made YouTube.

During a CCHL contest, Gloucester Rangers forward Keegan Rowe tried to spark his team by leading a rush and trying to squeeze through the space between Carleton Place Canadians' Ghantous and the boards. The 18-year-old Ghantous, as you can see, was not having it, as he knocked Rowe off his feet with a huge open-ice check — which led to his team quickly transitioning for a 3-on-1 rush and a goal. Now that's some end-to-end action that you don't see every day.

Elbow tight to the side, no head contact, feet stayed on the ice. Looks like a massive, clean check is still possible. That would have made any of the great defencemen to come out of Eastern Ontario proud, from Larry Robinson and Denis Potvin all the way back to Leo Boivin in the Original Six era.

The 6-foot, 214-pound Ghantous, who's committed to play for Robert Morris University in 2014-15, does not get on the score sheet much (two goals in 119 Junior A games over three seasons). But it takes all kinds to make a winning team. He's helped the Canadians give Carleton Place (pop. 9,500) a thrill by climbing to first place in their division. He's actually from Gloucester, Ont., so he might have had some extra family and friends see him lower the boom.
