Kootenay Ice’s Sam Reinhart has 5-point night (VIDEO)

For his next trick, Sam Reinhart should see if he can put a puck through the eye of a needle.

It's relatively certain Kootenay Ice coach Ryan McGill would not tell his players, "Just focus on holding them to three and Sam's line will take care of the rest," but that's what happened on Tuesday vs. the Saskatoon Blades. The Reinhart-Zach Franko-Jaedon Descheneau line (#FreeJaedon) factored in all Ice scoring during a 6-3 doubling of Saskatoon. Reinhart, NHL Central Scouting's third-ranked North American skater, finished with one goal and four assists for five points. That included the primary assist on all of the goals by Descheneau, who had a six-point night in his own right.

Yes, that's pretty good. The Saskatoon Blades, he understated in a weak effort to be wry, aren't very good, but Reinhart made it playing in the WHL look ridiculously easy.

Note how the 18-year-old found a skew of space to get open for a wrist shot on his goal in the game's fifth minute. On the Ice's second goal, Reinhart quickly adjusted after his shot was blocked, getting the puck back and whipping a backhand pass that Descheneau relayed home for the second of the night. The third marker including buying time by sagging to the corner to find the trailer, Franko, for a one-touch shot and goal. Reinhart also moved well without the puck on the fourth, making a pass, and finding a spot to take one before he found a wide-open Descheneau.

The NHL draft is a long way off, but wouldn't you like to see how Reinhart and Sean Monahan might collaborate with the Calgary Flames someday.

With 70 points, Reinhart has factored into 41.7 per cent of the Ice's 168 goals. It would be higher if he had not missed 12 games due to injury and the world junior championship.
