Kingston Frontenacs’ Michael Moffat clotheslines Oshawa’s Justice Dundas with high stick (VIDEO)

Kingston Frontenacs captainMichael Moffat has generally stayed on the right side of the line over his four seasons, but the overage defenceman breached a couple on Sunday.

During the second period of a rivalry game with the Oshawa Generals, Moffat was a beat late trying to check forward Justice Dundas. As a result, the shaft of his stick caught Dundas squarely in the face. Moffat's twig flying through the air was pretty obvious evidence of a penalty.

Dundas was kept out for the rest of the game. Moffat got away with only a two-minute penalty, but given the careless position of his stick and the injury on the play, the Ontario Hockey League will probably be compelled to review the incident.

Moffat, who is in the top 10 in defenceman scoring in the OHL with 44 points, got an extended look from the Nashville Predators in the fall but is still trying to land a pro contract. It is, speaking with the full acknowledgement that it's easy to play the game from the couch in front of a TV or from the press box, unlucky for him that a bad read mushroomed on him.

Kingston, due to an injury to New Jersey Devils-drafted centre Ryan Kujawinski, among other things, has been running with 16 or 17 skaters for the last span of games. It's in a tight playoff race with the Barrie Colts and North Bay Battalion for third place in its conference. Moffat is a power-play quarterback and is the defence partner of Vancouver Canucks prospect Evan McEneny. A suspension would be a kick in the pants on a couple counts for he and his team, but that's the method of deterrence the OHL favours as it tries to reduce traumatic brain injuries.
