No. 1 star: Rourke Chartier, Kelowna Rockets (WHL)

Game 4 of the Western League final was scoreless for 40 minutes but it was just a matter of when with the way the trio of Chartier (1G-1A, +2), playoff MVP Leon Draisaitl (1G-1A, +2) and Nick Merkley (1G, +2) were producing against the Brandon Wheat Kings. Seventy seconds into the third in front of 6,400 at Prospera Place, Draisaitl got the Rockets' third short-handed goal of the series. Nineteen seconds later, Chartier also tallied while a man short with his team-leading 13th of the post-season, and essentially was the series. The line got a three-man break later in the frame and Merkley deposited, with Chartier nabbing the primary assist and Draisaitl, the Edmonton Oilers prospect, getting his playoff-leading 28th point. Rockets goalie Jackson Whistle, who was not in net when the Rockets clinched each of their first three series, had a 19-save shutout.

The Rockets outscored Brandon by an aggregate 17-9 in the series, with only one game being decided by more than two goals. The big line combined for 22 points, including eight from Chartier, a San Jose Sharks prospects.

Kelowna will be playing in its fifth Memorial Cup tournament in 13 seasons. Its trip in 2003 was also to Quebec City.

No. 2 star: Matt Mistele, Oshawa Generals (OHL)

Mistele (2G-1A, +2) was paramount in helping the Generals get to overtime in Game 4, where they won on a Cole Cassels goal at 8:19 to take a 6-5 win and 3-1 series lead. The Whitby, Ont., native and Los Angeles Kings sixth-round choice opened the scoring with one of his patented fast-twitch snapshots 9:21 into the first period. Mistele's second goal was also a go-ahead tally, as he made an excellent outside move on Otters defenceman Cory Genovese and slid a backhand by goalie Devin Williams to open a 3-2 second-period lead. Mistele also had the entry shot that led to Cassels' winner, giving him a three-point night.

No. 3 star: Frédérik Gauthier, Rimouski Océanic (QMJHL)

So much for the QMJHL teams getting a lot of R&R before the Memorial Cup. Freddie Faceoff copped first star honours as the Océanic doubled up the Quebec Remparts for a 4-2 win and 2-2 series tie, meaning the President's Cup final will go at least six games. Gauthier (1G, +1, and 16-of-26 on faceoffs) was once again a two-way force, helping Rimouski keep his Team Canada contemporary Anthony Duclair (2A) without an even-strength point. The Toronto Maple Leafs first-rounder also scored a go-ahead goal 5:30 into the second, while Guillaume McSween scored later in the stanza to give Rimouski an insurmountable cushion.
