Jonathan Drouin has highlight coast-to-coast assist in Halifax Mooseheads’ 8th consecutive win

The compleat Jonathan Drouin was in full effect on Friday. The Tampa Bay Lightning's No. 3 overall pick is the undisputed best player in the Canadian Hockey League, as conveyed by his effort and output on the Halifax Mooseheads' first goal during their 9-2 blowout over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

First Drouin, who is now averaging a gaudy 2.44 points through 18 games, generated a scoring chance. Then the 18-year-old, after getting back on defence, created something special. After a quick exchange of passes with Darcy Ashley, Drouin challenged the Titan defence with a series of feints that made rearguard Alexandre Gosselin topple over. Finally, he threaded a pass by the foot of goalie Jacob Brennan to create a tap-in goal for Andrew Ryan.

It's like the Lightning kept Drouin until early October just to give every other QMJHL striker not named Anthony Mantha a fairer shot at the scoring title.

Drouin has had 44 points in 18 games since his return to junior on Oct. 1. Mantha has tallied 41 in 19 since that date (for 55 in 24 games). Their line scored four of Team QMJHL's seven goals during its sweep of the first leg of the Subway Super Series earlier this week, so there is a hankering to see if they can duplicate that at Team Canada's final selection camp in Toronto in three weeks' time.

The balance of Drouin's night was uneventful, as he finished with one goal and four assists. The only effective resistance to him is understatement, for dramatic effect.
