Gatineau Olympiques players under investigation for sexual acts in restaurant after game
The issue of young athletes and sexual entitlement has come to the fore once again following disturbing allegations against several members of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Gatineau Olympiques.
On Monday, Le Droit's Louis-Denis Ebacher reported that Gatineau police have received a formal complaint about indecent acts involving "at least six" players and an intoxicated woman at a Boston Pizza restaurant last Friday, following the Olympiques' win over the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.
The complaint is under the purview of indecency. According to Gatineau police, a sexual assault complaint has not been filed, although that does not rule out the possibility one could be filed.
The details in Le Droit's account are very graphic:
Witnesses state that an intoxicated woman at the restaurant, where a dozen Olympiques players had gone for a late dinner after their game, flashed her breasts and also rubbed up against several other customers suggestively. She went into an upstairs bathroom with one man. Eventually, several players were inside the locked bathroom with the woman with another player standing guard outside. When an employee forced the door open and the players spilled out, "at least two" were seen pulling up their pants.
The QMJHL issued a statement on Monday morning:
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and Gatineau Olympiques organization take the situation reported in the media very seriously. There will be an internal investigation and a process will be established for next steps. There will be no further comment on this situation until further notice.
This comes during an already rocky season for Gatineau, which is tied for the final playoff spot in the QMJHL. The team's attendance has also dipped.
