CJHL grad Josh Pitt wins outdoor game with coast-to-coast goal for Western Michigan (VIDEO)

When the Ontario Hockey League takes it outside on Sunday at Comerica Park, it will have tough time topping the NCAA for beauty snipes scored in an outdoor game.

On Friday, former Central Canada Hockey League standout Josh Pitt scored a great coast-to-coast goal for the last-minute overtime winner in Western Michigan's massive upset of the No. 3-ranked Wolverines in the Great Lakes Invitational. The setting demanded some old-school shinny and Pitt seized the day by successfully going 1-on-3 against the Wolverines, passing the puck to himself to get by the last defender, Florida Panthers draft pick Michael Downing.

There are no shootouts in non-conference games, so give Pitt a timeliness award for scoring with 18.3 seconds left

"It’s exactly the way coach [Rob] Facca, our power play coach, drew it up this morning," Western Michigan coach Andy Murray told The Ann Arbor News.

Score one for the smaller state schools, since Western Michigan and Michigan Tech are playing in the final on Saturday and mighty Michigan and Michigan State are consigned to the consolation. Anyway, talk about a nice moment for Pitt

Western Michigan is 8-8-3 on the season, but with the shorter schedule in the NCAA, one takedown of a Top 5 team can often define a team's year. It must be a major thrill for the 21-year-old Pitt, a sophomore at Western Michigan who spent 3½ seasons with the Central Canada league's Kemptville 73's before completing his Junior A tenure with the Ottawa Jr. Senators in 2012. Meantime, the Canadian Junior Hockey League, the umbrella organization for all the Junior A leagues across Canada, might take some pride in seeing an alumnus shine during a big showcase for the 'other path' in hockey.

And so the die is cast. The Saginaw Spirit are designated home team against the Windsor Spitfires at 1:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, with the London Knights-Plymouth Whalers tilt following at 5 p.m. ET.
