Calgary Mustangs can coach with greatest bad press release ever

Calgary Mustangs can coach with greatest bad press release ever

There has been no there there when it comes to the Calgary Mustangs' competitiveness lately. And instead of their, there was a there in the press release that threw their players under the bus.

Ordinarily, one might not notice a coach firing at the Junior A level. The Mustangs, who have not won in their past 14 games, fired Chad Allen on Thursday, exactly 366 days after he was hired. Then the team issued a, uh, grammatically challenged press release that attributed Allen's ouster to being "very disappointed in the players dismal efforts as a team." That should inspire them to end the winless skid, eh.

From Tyler King (@tyler_king):

Admist? Is that some sort of new low-cal soft drink targeted at Fresca's market share? Amid works well enough there, Larry.

It is a little stunning that would get released to the public. The Mustangs, in Junior A parlance, are a 'city team,' which usually means having a much smaller fanbase and budget than their counterparts based in smaller centres where Junior A is the biggest game in town. It is understandable that there might not be money in the budget for a media relations professional.

Generally speaking, though, common sense dictates there is a way to polish the message so the coaching shake-up isn't pinned on the teenaged players' efforts. The next time Calgary makes a coaching change — November 2016, if their recent track record is any indication — the release should be run by someone who can recast it into proper English.
