Anaheim Ducks pick Nick Sorensen has 5 points in Quebec’s series-tying win: Saturday’s 3 Stars

No. 1 star: Nick Sorensen, Quebec Remparts (QMJHL)

The Remparts power play was a scorching 5-for-6 during their 7-3 series-evening win over Rouyn-Noranda, and Sorensen (3G-2A) caught lightning in a bottle with a playoff hat trick. The 19-year-old Ducks second-rounder scored consecutive goals in the second period to give the Remparts their first multi-goal lead. Soon after Rouyn-Noranda cut into the margin, the 19-year-old Swede came back to earn the primary assist on a tally by the comeback kid, Kurt Etchegary, to restore a two-goal margin with 1:21 left in the frame. Toronto Maple Leafs pick Fabrice Herzog broke in and scored off the ensuing centre-ice faceoff, and it was pretty much game over.

No. 2 star: Taran Kozun, Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)

Thanks to Kozun handling 38-of-39 Everett Silvertips shots, including all 19 he faced in the second period, Seattle won 2-1 in the opener. The 'Tips-Thunderbirds series is likely to have a lot of similar scorelines, putting extra pressure on goaltenders to be perfect, and Kozun did not have a letdown. The 19-year-old Nipawin, Sask., native showed why Seattle traded for him at midseason, making a string of late saves when the Silvertips pressed in a bid to force overtime. Everett's only goal came on a 5-on-3 advantage. Both of Seattle's tallies were on the power play. It might be some time before either team gives up a 5-on-5 goal.

No. 3 star: Charles-David Beaudoin, Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL)

The Volts captain came up large, assisting on Christophe Lalancette's strike with 4:43 left in overtime that gave Drummondville a 6-5 win over Victoriaville, preventing the Tigres from coming home with a 2-0 series lead. Drummondville needed its leaders to come through and Beaudoin (2G-1A, +2, and credited with six dangerous shots) and Lalancette (1G-3A, +1) certaintly did. Each of Beaudoin's goals in regulation restored Drummondville leads, including a third-period tally that came after Victoriaville had wiped out a three-goal deficit.

Honourable mention: Nikita Zadorov, London Knights (OHL)

The big man on the Knights' blueline was in top form during a 6-3 Game 2 doubling of Windsor. Zadorov (2G-2A, +1) scored two goals in the last six minutes of the first period, sandwiched around a helper on goal by Phoenix Coyotes first-rounder Max Domi. The Buffalo Sabres first-rounder set up London captain Chris Tierney (1G-2A, +2) in the second to get his fourth point before the game was even 26 minutes old.

Honourable mentions: Émile Poirier and Martin Reway, Gatineau Olympiques (QMJHL)

Once again, Gatineau made the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles look like (emphasis on look like) playoff novices with an 8-2 win to go up 2-0. Reway (3A, +2) copped first-star honours ahead of Poirier, who merely had a hat trick. With their linemate Vaclav Karabacek (1G-1A, +2) also wielding a hot stick, the line's had 20 points through two games. There's no way it can continue to be this good for them with the Eagles home for the next couple games.

Potent notables — New York Islanders first-rounder Ryan Pulock (1G-1A, +2) was first star in Brandon's 6-3 road win at Regina ... Ottawa Senators-drafted goalie Chris Driedger had a 35-save shutout for Calgary, which is even 1-1 with Kootenay ... In OHL play, Edmonton Oilers first-rounder Darnell Nurse (3A, +2) led Sault Ste. Marie to a series-tying home win over Owen Sound ... Jonathan Drouin (2G-2A, +1) and Nikolaj Ehlers (1G-3A, +1) each had four points as Halifax easily beat Charlottetown. Islanders rookie Daniel Sprong scored for the second game in a row.
