Tennessee RB scores 7 TDs, sets 3 state records in remarkable title game performance

If you've ever wanted to see what it looks like when one player completely and utterly dominates a state title game, feast your eyes on the video below.

What you see here is Hendersonville (Tenn.) Beech Senior High star Jalen Hurd running roughshod against Columbia (Tenn.) High in the Tennessee Class 5A state title game. As noted by the Tennessean, by game's end, Hurd scored seven times, rushing for 394 yards and setting a new record for yards in a Tennessee state title game in the process.

More impressive still, Hurd's monster final game pushed him into first place in the all-time single season rushing list in Tennessee. The junior finished his third high school season with 3,357 yards, a whopping 285 more than the previous record holder Jacob Warbritton, a Huntingdon back who had set the record earlier on the same day.

Perhaps unsprisingly, Hurd's third state title of the day was provided by his seven touchdowns, making him the first-ever player to score seven times in a Tennessee state title game.

Hurd's one-man heroics alone dwarfed Columbia's scoring output. Just consider: Hurd scored seven of his team's eight touchdowns while Columbia only scored five as a team. Fittingly, Hurd scored on the first play from scrimmage and never looked back. By the time he turned around, the game was practically already out of reach.

For his part, Hurd was quick to pass the credit for his rushing success on to his hard working linemen, who set the stage for his monster night by opening up gaping holes up front.

"You're competing for the state championship, and any time you're in that situation you're going to have more oomph, and I'm just glad we pulled it through," Hurd told the Tennessean. "When the offensive line is doing a great job and giving me holes that encourages me to run harder."

Hurd is currently considered a four-star recruit for the Class of 2014, and he has been recruited by the veritable SEC and Big Ten cream of the crop. He already holds scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Tennessee and Georgia, among plenty of other top schools.

For now, Hurd is still focusing on his high school career, game by game. That approach seems to be paying major dividends.
