Florida sophomore pulls down potential football catch of the year weeks before season starts

The football season hasn’t even started yet, but already it’ll be tough to top the catch you see in the video below.

Meet Dionte Mullins. As a freshman, he caught 29 passes for nearly 600 yards and five touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. He was a breakout star for Miami (Fl.) Gulliver Prep and showed no sign of slowing down.

Evidently he’s improved still further over the summer, since he’s now pulling down preposterous grabs like the one you see above.

Competing in a summer 7-on-7 event, Mullins elevated over a fierce defender and somehow corralled an air-mailed pass while falling to the ground.

Keep in mind, Mullins wasn’t wearing any pads on the play, so that fall to the turf wasn’t exactly soft. Still, it didn’t keep the rising sophomore from completing one of the best grabs you’ll see all season.

Also worth noting, again, is that Mullins is only just now entering his sophomore season. Yes, the player you see to the right is still a teenager (despite the beard scruff) and still has three years of high school football to play.

That's almost terrifying, and is certainly a direct correlation to the serious attention he's already getting from the likes of Clemson, Auburn and West Virginia, among other top programs.

As to what Mullins does next for an encore, we’ll all just have to tune in on August 23, when Gulliver Prep kicks off its preseason slate against Hialeah Gardens (Fl.) Mater Academy Charter School.
