Showdown, Week 28: Sean O’Hair vs. Steve Stricker

So in an attempt to inject a bit more life and interest into tournaments, and because we're all inveterate gamblers who are one bad card from being out on the streets, Jay Busbee and I are playing a golf version of a football suicide pool: We each pick one golfer per tournament and see how they do against each other, straight up. Victory over the other guy gets one point, victory in the tournament gets three points, and a tie lands you half a point. (Double for the majors.) And when we burn a golfer, he's done for the year. We turn our attention to the John Deere Classic.

Wall: I'm taking 2005 John Deere Classic winner Sean O'Hair, who's coming off a T-7 (second straight top-25) at the Greenbrier Classic. Even though he hasn't played at TPC Deere Run since he missed the cut in 2009, I like his recent form enough to take a chance this week. Plus, I already used Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson, and since someone hasn't used "Mr. John Deere" this season, I'm pretty sure I know who you're going to roll with this week.

Busbee: Steve Stricker. Boom. I know you're not going to pick him, 'cause you can't. And while the likelihood of him winning four times in a row at the same tournament is unlikely at best, it has been done six times before. And he's obviously comfortable here. He's coming off a solid weekend in West Virginia, never shooting in the 70s, and he's primed to start playing his typical good-just-not-that-good-in-the-majors golf.

Last week: We're all tied up! After Busbee took a two-point lead a little while back, Wall picked up his second straight win with a T-7 finish from Webb Simpson at the Greenbrier Classic. Jim Fuyrk, Busbee's pick for the week, ended up missing the cut by a shot.
