Thursday Fantasy Flier, Week 14: J.J. Nelson, if you're going deep

OK, look, we can't promise to find you a 20-point fantasy performance every week in this feature. It's nice when it happens, but that's not the norm. Not a reasonable expectation. It happened, it was kind of magical, and now we move on. Richard Rodgers isn't walking through that door this Thursday.

[Yahoo Daily Fantasy: $10 could win you $30K in our $300K contest for Week 14]

This week, the Thursday game is fairly simple for fantasy owners. You're starting pretty much all your healthy Cardinals, from Carson to the kicker, and none of your Vikings except AP. Minnesota is coming off a non-competitive loss to the Seahawks, traveling to Arizona on a short week and leaving a big chunk of the defense behind...

Not good, you guys. This certainly feels like the setup for a comfortable win by the Cards, and possibly a significant point total. If you're looking for a deep WR or Flex option who has a decent shot at breaking the plane, consider this Bird...

J.J. Nelson, WR, Arizona Cardinals (6 percent owned, $10 minimum price in Yahoo daily)

If you're unfamiliar with Nelson's work, allow me to suggest this highlight and this one and maybe this one. Nelson is blazing fast (4.28 speed), an almost impossible deep cover, and he's been clicking with Carson Palmer in recent weeks. The rookie has caught eight balls for 229 yards and two scores over his last three games, and Palmer certainly seems pleased:

"I think everybody expected him to make the plays that he did, and I'm just glad to see him do it," Palmer said of Nelson. "I think he started to realize he's not just a player, he's a big-time player."

It would be a stretch to call Nelson a featured receiver for Arizona — he saw three targets last week and five the week before — but he's an ideal scheme fit, a field-flipping big-play specialist. He's clearly a player of interest in dynasty, and he's a swing-for-the-fences play if you're in desperate need of WR help this week. I've ranked him No. 50 at his position this week (fourth among Arizona receivers), but it wouldn't be much of a surprise if he delivered 50-60 yards and another score.
