Mostly NFL Notes: Talking Le'Veon Bell and a look around the league in Week 13

Mostly NFL Notes: Talking Le'Veon Bell and a look around the league in Week 13

One game after rushing for 204 yards, Le’Veon Bell ran for 95 yards and a score and also secured 8-of-11 targets for 159 receiving yards, which means he gained a whopping 254 yards from scrimmage on fewer than 30 touches. Bell entered the week as Pro Football Focus’ No. 1 ranked running back, and his performance Sunday certainly didn’t dispute that. Bell is now on pace to finish with 2,252 total yards and seven touchdowns...Drew Brees entered with an 8:5 TD:INT ratio on the road this season, but he tossed five scores with zero picks in Pittsburgh despite somehow targeting Jimmy Graham ZERO times. The Saints were coming off a three game losing streak all at home, so this victory was huge, especially since the NFC South remains so wide open. Brees has gotten 9.4 YPA with an 8:1 TD:INT ratio over the past two weeks, so don’t go writing him off as a top fantasy QB just yet...Kenny Stills has totaled 260 yards over the past two games and has scored twice over the past three contests. There’s no question he’s become New Orleans’ No. 1 WR.

Teddy Bridgewater threw for just 138 yards, but he tossed multiple touchdowns for the second week in a row. His 120.7 QB Rating was the first time he’s reached the 100.0 mark during his brief career...Meanwhile, Cam Newton has a 6:11 TD:turnover ratio over his past five games...Cordarrelle Patterson saw one target, as he’s officially reached rock bottom...Minnesota hadn’t blocked a punt for a touchdown since 1986 before doing so twice Sunday.

Here’s yet another pretty great “Key & Peele” sketch.

The Rams held a 38-0 lead at halftime and won 52-0 despite Kenny Britt, Jared Cook and Tavon Austin combining for 24 receiving yards...Oakland entered having been sacked just 13 times all year before suffering six Sunday, as the Rams' fantasy defense continues to be a huge asset after faltering early on...Tre Mason was one of the best players on the field in Week 13, as he totaled 164 yards and three scores on just 17 touches, including this sick 89-yard TD run.

As someone who was starting Indy’s defense, let me tell you Colt McCoy was clearly an upgrade over Robert Griffin. McCoy took six sacks, but he also threw for 392 yards with a 3:0 TD:INT ratio. There’s a zero percent chance RG3 plays another snap for Washington...If he can somehow stay healthy, Jordan Reed will be a top-five fantasy tight end from here on out...Donte Moncrief looks like a future monster, while Dan Herron should be treated as a top-20 fantasy back the rest of this year...Washington converted its first third down with 10 or more yards to go since Week 2! (Ending a 0-for-38 streak.)...Coby Fleener had 127 yards and two touchdowns, including this one. Realize he also dropped a wide open would-be 50+ yard TD as well...Andrew Luck committed a couple of turnovers early on, but he got 13.7 YPA with five TD passes. The question isn’t whether he’s the most valuable commodity in the NFL. It’s whether Luck is the most valuable commodity in all of sports.

With 6:30 left in the second quarter, Eli Manning had 15 pass attempts while Jacksonville had a total of four yards. Yet somehow, the Giants blew a 21-0 lead against a 1-10 team and have now lost seven games in a row...Nice to see a pulse from Marqise Lee, who hauled in 6-of-8 targets for 75 yards and a score. Don’t forget about him next year.

Over the last two games, Keenan Allen has 17 catches for 225 yards and three touchdowns. He saw 35 targets over the previous three games before that, so it’s safe to say he’s back as an elite fantasy WR...Speaking of which, so is Torrey Smith, who also got off to a slow start but has come on of late, as he’s scored eight TDs over the past nine games, including two Sunday, one of which being this highlight worthy grab. He was very close to a third score and is back on the radar as a fantasy WR2, although it was a bit alarming he wasn’t on the field during Baltimore’s final drive (check his health)...San Diego somehow won despite being down 10 points inside four minutes while also giving up a field goal...Entering Week 13, Steve Smith had broken the most tackles (16) among all wide receivers. Want to hear something crazy? According to PFF, Calvin Johnson has yet to break a single tackle this year.

Ryan Fitzpatrick recorded a 147.5 QB Rating while throwing six touchdowns, two of which went to DeAndre Hopkins. The second-year WR has been a standout, especially when Fitzpatrick has been the starter, and Sunday was marked with plenty of highlights...J.J. Watt had two sacks (for a loss of 24 yards), forced a fumble in which he recovered and also caught a touchdown. He’s easily the most exciting defensive player in sports.

It’s unclear how close to full health he is, but Sammy Watkins has averaged 26.3 receiving yards over the past four games...Josh Gordon disappointed with just 75 yards, but he saw 12 targets and it came against a Buffalo secondary that’s allowed just 6.6 YPA on the year....Johnny Football! I'd be shocked if Johnny Manziel isn't starting in Week 14.

Interesting to see Doug Martin dominate the Tampa Bay backfield touches. Probably too late for those who drafted him, I’m guessing...To say Mike Evans has surpassed Vincent Jackson would be an understatement...The Bengals attempted an onside kick up four points as favorites against a 2-9 team late in the third quarter...That said, Marvin Lewis’ (illegal) challenge here won his team the game....One week after Solomon Wilcots said this, he was extremely confused why the clock stopped with one second left after TB failed to convert a fourth down late in the fourth quarter.

Songs of the Week: Bastille – “Bite Down.” and TV On The Radio – “Ride.”

Let’s hope Andre Ellington’s hip injury isn’t serious, but it’s clear he’s been playing hurt all year. After averaging 5.5 YPC last season, he’s reached 4.5 in one game all season, including marks of 1.3, 2.2, 2.4 and 2.4 over the past four weeks, respectively...Sunday marked the first time Steven Jackson reached 85 rushing yards since joining Atlanta...Julio Jones dominated Patrick Petersonsecuring all 10 of his targets for a career-high 189 yards and a score (although to be fair, a 41-yard catch of his was clearly out of bounds yet wasn’t challenged for an inexplicable reason).

TV Talk: I’m pretty into this season of both “Homeland” and “Sons Of Anarchy,” with both admittedly being quite over the top. The former has made a nice comeback, while the latter is pulling no punches during its last season. Moreover, I’m a big fan of “The Missing” so far, which I highly recommend.

Brandon Bolden scoring the lone New England rushing TD should actually be more expected than considered trolling by the Patriots, although it’s pretty funny Jonas Gray saw one carry. LeGarrette Blount is the preferred Pats RB to own...Davante Adams was great, leading GB with 121 yards on 11 targets, but his drop on a would-be TD was brutal...Darrelle Revis was otherwise amazing, but he gave up one catch that resulted in a 45-yard touchdown to Jordy Nelson with just 14 seconds left in the first half...New England had beaten division leaders in each of the past three weeks (all by 20+ points)...Aaron Rodgers is undefeated with a 20:0 TD:INT ratio at home this season...Among players with 150+ carries entering Week 13, Eddie Lacy’s 2.7 YPC after contact was the fourth highest in the NFL (behind only Arian Foster (3.0), DeMarco Murray (2.9) and Marshawn Lynch (2.8))...Jordy Nelson has seven touchdowns at home this season and all have been 25-plus yards.

The 7-5 Chiefs somehow remain without a TD pass to a WR this season. Meanwhile, Demaryius Thomas has 16 touchdowns over his past 17 games (including the playoffs)...Peyton Manning attempted 34 passes and two of those went to Wes Welker for 12 yards...Meanwhile, Emmanuel Sanders didn’t reach 100 yards Sunday, but he’s done so seven times since joining Denver this year after never reaching that mark over his previous 56 career games in Pittsburgh...C.J. Anderson totaled 185 yards and a score and should continue to be treated as a top-five fantasy back down the stretch.
