Injury Wrap: Cecil Shorts is off the board

For a few weeks the Jaguars have given us reason for optimism, but that's not the flavor of the day Friday. Meet us in Northern Florida and let's sort through it.

• The Cecil Shorts story has been a fun one, but it's on ice for Week 14. Jacksonville's leading receiver is dealing with post-concussion issues and won't play against the Jets. It's a notable hit across the fantasy landscape, as Shorts has been a Top 10 wideout in just about any format over the last seven weeks.

Justin Blackmon might lead Jacksonville in targets this week but I can't endorse him - he's expected to draw New York cover ace Antonio Cromartie. I'm also moving Chad Henne down in my rankings (he's no longer a QB2 on my clipboard). The one Jaguars pass catcher I do like this week, a little bit anyway, is TE Marcedes Lewis. And it's probably a good time to dial up the Jets as a defense rental.

The Jaguars have also ruled out running back Rashad Jennings (post concussion), which means special teamer Montell Owens will pick up a start. He's seen rare work over the last couple of years, totaling 17 carries for 68 yards since the beginning of 2011. We can't take much from that sample.

• Hakeem Nicks (knee) did some work Friday after missing the Thursday session. He's tagged as questionable for the critical home match against the Saints. The Giants have a late game Sunday, so be sure to have a caddy designated, just in case.

• Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) rested Thursday and then practiced Friday, his weekly standard. He's listed as probable and is expected to take his normal workload.

• Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) had a good week of practice and will start against San Diego. I'm not expecting miracles from Big Ben right away, but his presence theoretically gives his wide receivers a better chance to make a play.

• Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) was able to practice Friday after a missed session the day before. He's likely to play Sunday against Dallas, but double check his game-day status just to be sure. The Bengals excused A.J. Green (illness) from Friday's practice, but he's expected to be fine when Sunday rolls around.

With Donald Brown (ankle) off the board, Vick Ballard stands as the primary Colts running back. Tennessee visits the dome this week.

The Eagles won't have LeSean McCoy or Michael Vick in uniform this week; they're both dealing with post-concussion symptoms and clearance. Vick's status is a moot point anyway, with Nick Foles confirmed to start the rest of the year. I'd be surprised if McCoy played next week, and there's probably a decent chance he won't dress again this season. Bryce Brown looks like a dynamite option in the meantime, even against run-stuffing Tampa Bay this week.

• Stevie Johnson (hamstring) did some work Friday but remains questionable for the Week 14 home date against the Rams. At least Buffalo plays in one of the ten early games.

• Jordy Nelson (hamstring) was officially ruled out Friday after missing the entire practice week. He'll be missed, but Aaron Rodgers still has a deep stable of receivers to work with.

The Bears expect Michael Bush (ribs) to play, though he's listed as questionable. Wideout Alshon Jeffery (knee) should be able to take some snaps.

With Jonathan Stewart (ankle) out for another week, DeAngelo Williams picks up the start for the Panthers. Williams had 13 touches for 68 yards in the loss at Kansas City.

Brandon LaFell (toe) is doubtful for the rematch against Atlanta. This could lead to more work for tight end Greg Olsen, who's on a recent binge. He also scored against the Falcons earlier this year.

Andre Roberts (ankle) is no sure thing to play at Seattle, not that you're looking for paths to the Arizona passing game. Beanie Wells (knee) is listed as questionable, though context clues point to him playing.

• Danny Amendola (heel) had limited work Thursday and Friday and will be a game-day decision at Buffalo. The Bills secondary has been better of late, which steers me away from an Amendola play.

• Dustin Keller (ankle) hasn't been practicing and is considered doubtful for Sunday's game at Jacksonville. Unless you're in some jumbo-sized league, just throw the Jets passing game in the garbage. Mark Sanchez is keeping his starting spot, by the way, but he's expected to be on a short leash.

• Cedric Peerman (ankle) isn't expected to play in Week 14, which could steer more work to surging BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Peerman is listed as doubtful.

• Darren McFadden suffered an ankle injury in Thursday's loss to the Broncos, and while the Raiders don't think it's a major injury, you know the flags with this guy. Make sure Marcel Reece isn't sitting on your waiver wire, just in case. Oakland finishes the year with Kansas City, Carolina and San Diego.

Josh Brown will probably kick for the Bengals this weekend, as Mike Nugent (calf) is listed as doubtful.

Kansas City cornerback Brandon Flowers (hamstring) is a game-time decision. The Browns passing game would appreciate Flowers being off the field; he's one of the best in the game.
