Early arrival: Nomar Mazara, Mallex Smith get the call

This is not a drill, you guys. Repeat: NOT A DRILL.

On Sunday, the Texas Rangers promoted blue-chip prospect Nomar Mazara, 20, from Triple-A Round Rock as a replacement for injured outfielder Shin-Soo Choo (DL, calf, 4-6 weeks). Mazara had opened the season in style, going 6-for-12 with a homer in his first three games.  He's always been young for his level, yet the numbers have been plenty impressive. He slashed .296/.366/.443 in the high minors last season with 42 extra-base hits, including 14 home runs.

If you're looking for an upside multi-category flier in a fantasy league of any size, go get Mazara. No worries about playing time here...

He's owned in just 13 percent of Yahoo leagues as of this writing, but you can expect that percentage to increase quite a bit over the next 24 hours. This is an actionable fantasy event. Mazara isn't a base-stealer, but he can hit for average and power.

If it's speed you need, then look instead to Atlanta. The Braves called up burner Mallex Smith on Sunday, with Ender Inciarte (hamstring) hitting the 15-day DL. Smith just went 4-for-5 with a steal and three runs scored on Saturday for Triple-A Gwinnett. He swiped 57 bags in the minors last season and 88 the year before, plus he's a career .296/.381/.390 hitter. This is an elite base-stealing threat, folks. Add as needed. He's only 2 percent owned at the moment. (For background on Smith and his approach on the bases, I'll refer you to this piece by MiLB.com's Kelsie Heneghan. Good stuff.)

It's also worth noting that Minnesota has recalled outfield prospect Max Kepler, but he isn't likely to receive consistent playing time in the days and weeks ahead. Not a priority add just now. Kepler, 23, slashed .322/.416/.531 at Double-A last season, piling up doubles (32) and triples (13), stealing 18 bases.
