World Cup of Hockey doesn't draw crowd outside Air Canada Centre

The Toronto Raptors and Maple Leafs have attracted big crowds outside Air Canada Centre for playoff games in recent years. Game 1 of the World Cup of Hockey final? Not so much.

The viewing party Tuesday night in Maple Leaf Square was not much of a party at all. If the Raptors' rowdy Jurassic Park is representative of the beginning of the movie when people are flocking to the park, then this was the end of it when the dinosaurs are on the loose and there are precious few people in sight.

Truth be told, it wasn't exactly better inside the arena, as swathes of empty seats were easy to spot throughout. Whether it was Team Canada's expected dominance, a general apathy toward Team Europe and their methodical style of play or the Blue Jays facing the Orioles down the street during a tight wild-card race, there just wasn't much buzz inside or outside for the game.

Game 2 of the best-of-three goes Thursday night and Canada can claim the World Cup trophy after winning Game 1 3-1. Will more people pack the square for that one?
