If you tuned in to the upset-filled event that was UFC 196 this past weekend, you would've noticed that Canada's greatest mixed-martial artist was in attendance. Despite being outside the octagon for more than two years, Georges St-Pierre (25-2-0) has continued to be an ambassador for the sport as well as a big fan.

It's no big surprise then to see the former UFC welterweight champion at the event. Even Jon Jones and Joanna Jedrzejczyk were present so no big deal, right? Oh wait, those two were in Las Vegas to promote their upcoming bouts a day prior. Well then, let the rumour mill spin!

With the UFC's biggest ticket in Conor McGregor moving up to 170 lbs, some believed St-Pierre's appearance represented the potential of a superfight between the two. Yes, Dana White did say leading up to the fight that if McGregor defeated Nate Diaz in spectacular fashion, it could set up a title fight with current welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. But the brash Irishman has stated before that it was less about the belts and more about the paycheques and champion or not, GSP will always draw huge numbers.

It's safe to say that in the aftermath of UFC 196, Diaz tossed a huge monkey wrench in all of the promotion's and McGregor's ambitious plans.

So it's back down to the 145 lbs division for the featherweight champion. But what about the man who shocked the MMA world? Apparently, a fight with none other than GSP.

Interesting, but would a Diaz fight really bring St-Pierre out of his hiatus? GSP's head coach Firas Zahabi of TriStar entertained the idea.

MMA fans must be drooling over a Georges St-Pierre comeback. He has never fully committed to retirement and has continued training to keep himself in tremendous shape. Perhaps UFC 200, as rumours have it, will pull him out of limbo. But if you've followed GSP and have seen how he operates, we'll just have to continue speculating.

For the time being, Nate Diaz will have settle for another Canadian superstar after being called out for his "terrible style."
