Like a rolling stone; Thomas Ulsrud's trick shot at The Worlds adds to Norwegian skip's legend (video)
Thomas Ulsrud and his Norwegian curling crew are known for two things.
One, they're damn fine curlers. Two, they are flamboyant, friendly and wearers of the craziest curling pants you've ever seen.
Ulsrud, who won the world championship a year ago, added to his legend with a good-natured final shot at this year's final. Trailing Sweden's Niklas Edin by a score of 9-5 in the ninth end, Ulsrud and his teammates decided to concede the victory to the Swedes, not an uncommon practice in the sport of curling.

Always ready for some fun and entertainment, Ulsrud delivered his final stone in a way that had many curling fans saying: "I've never seen that before." Have a look at this video from the World Curling Federation's website:

Ulsrud's gesture of good sportsmanship and fun garnered him a lot of love on Twitter:
Thomas Ulsrud may be the finest ambassador for a sport I've come across. Kudos to that guy.

Most games, when they are conceded, end with a lot less flair than that, usually with just handshakes and the players mumbling "good game." However, some have ended in style, largely in thanks to Manitoba curler Jeff Stoughton, a two-time world champion who perfected what is now known as "The Stoughton Spin-o-rama." It's a move that has been copied - to varying degrees of success - by many curlers over the years. Fellow Manitoba curler Mike McEwen poped eyes earlier this season when he pulled off a Stoughton Spin-o-rama (alternate spelling: spinarama) with remarkable accuracy, at the Continental Cup (You can see that here).
Ulsrud and his teammates - Torger Nergard, Christopher Svae and Havard Vad Petersson, like to have fun, as you can witness for yourself by scrolling through their Facebook page. There, you'll see the outfits they wore immediately after their loss to Sweden, when they were heading out for a little post-tournament celebrating. Earlier this year, at The Continental Cup, they delighted the crowd with a 'stupid human trick' they've perfected - putting their pants on without using their hands and dancing.
The world of curling is actually filled with trick shots, as you can see by browsing through Youtube.
Some of us would actually like to see a trick shot competition added to, say, The Continental Cup.
Not sure what to call Ulsrud's last shot at The Worlds, but "the rolling stone" seems a little pedestrian, although completely accurate. Could call it "The Jagger."
How about "Norwegian Revolution"? "Ulsrudian Tumbler"?
