Tyler Ennis in 'much better spot now' after trade to Bucks

Getting traded in the early stages of your career can be an unexpected jolt. That wasn't the case for Canadian point guard Tyler Ennis, who went from the Suns to the Bucks at the trade deadline last week.

From the moment he was picked with the 18th overall pick in the 2014 draft it was an awkward fit in Phoenix, and it's not because Ennis didn't suit the Suns' system. He joined a team that already had two established lead guards in Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe and that would add Isiah Thomas a month after the draft.

"I was basically prepared [to be traded]," Ennis told Andrew Gruman of Fox Sports Wisconsin. "The situation I walked into  having four point guards on a team, three of them top-of-the-line point guards  I think you kind of have to be prepared for something to happen."

After only playing eight NBA games over the last four months, Ennis, 20, has played 18 minutes in each of his first two games in Milwaukee. The numbers haven't been huge, he averaged four points, 2.5 assists, and three turnovers in those two games, but most importantly he's been on the court and there's plenty of playing time for the taking. Bucks head coach Jason Kidd, one of the game's great point guards for history, has been very complimentary of Ennis' skill-set.

"I'm going to have an opportunity to prove myself in such a great environment with a team that's so close," said Ennis. "I think I'm in a much better spot now."

Michael Carter-Williams, another Bucks trade deadline acquisition, has been out with a foot injury. When he returns competition for minutes will increase and Ennis is more than ready to go.

"If you are not going to play you don't want to waste a year," said Ennis. "Going forward, that's not something I want to go through again."
