Tough Canadian tennis day in Madrid: Vasek Pospisil injured, Milos loses to Andy Murray
Until Friday afternoon, the worst news of Vasek Pospisil's European clay-court campaign was his terrible luck with the singles draws in Munich and Madrid.
And then came a far tougher blow, as the Canadian rolled his left ankle during his quarter-final doubles match with partner Jack Sock against the Spanish team of Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez. (The actual moment of the injury isn't in this video, mercifully).
Pospisil and Sock were rolling, up 6-2, 1-0 when the injury occurred.
It's far too early to know the extent of it. But these types of things are rarely flesh wounds, so to speak. Witnesses on site in Madrid said Pospisil's screams were pretty heart-wrenching; he reportedly rolled it while trying to avoid stepping on Sock's foot, which made Sock feel even worse.

If that weren't enough, compatriot Milos Raonic was far from 100 per cent in his quarter-final singles match against No. 2 seed Andy Murray, falling 6-4, 7-5.
Raonic had returned to action after 2 1/2 weeks off to treat a problem with a metatarsal bone in his right foot. He cruised through his first two matches against Juan Mónaco and Leonardo Mayer in straight sets even if you could spy a grimace here and here. Against Murray, despite the competitive-sounding score, he was pretty visibly restricted in his movement.
Raonic promptly withdrew from next week's Masters 1000 event in Rome.
