Toronto Raptors fan goes for the big score – and is REEEEE-jected

In the dying moments of a crazy, dramatic playoff game, after a bucket by Kyle Lowry finally gave the home team a tiny bit of breathing room, this Toronto Raptors fan figured it was now or never.

If there was ever going to be a moment, this was going to be it.

The hot blonde had sat next to him the entire game. And perhaps, he thought, in this rapturous moment, he could go in for the big score and she might be carried away enough by the surprise tactic that he might hit paydirt.

A gross miscalculation and, unfortunately for the young buck in question, a GIF moment that will live on at least for 24 hours.

He forgot the first rule of thumb when attempting to play out of your league: the female in question is usually always going to set you straight.

Until such time as the guy ends up on some talk-radio show discussing his 15 minutes of Internet fame, there are plenty of theories as to the back story behind this.

Rodger Sherman of SB Nation posits a lovely, romantic tale in which the young man slaved and toiled to come up with the scratch to get the tickets, upon which he asked the girl of his dreams to join him - only to be cruelly rejected by his ungrateful she-date.

It's a lovely thought. But from the female perspective, here's what we think really happened.

The dude went to the game with a bunch of people he may or may not have known well – as you can see around him, there's a group who decided that having matching T-shirts made, preferably worn over a dress plaid shirt (see the guy to his right) was a very fashionable thing to do.

None of them are high-fiving him or anything at that epic moment, so that's why we're not sure how well he knows them. For all we know, the folks to his right might even be his parents.

So the guy gets to his seat, and quickly realizes this is his lucky day. You see, there's this very attractive blonde SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO HIM. Okay, she's there with her bestie; but he's not really noticing the equally-attractive brunette too much. He has stars in his eyes. He's in love.

The entire game, he's looking for an excuse to talk to her. But he's a little shy, realizing he's out of his depth there. She's pretty much ignoring him, trying to figure out if there's a way she and her BFF can get courtside.

Then – THE BIG MOMENT. The crowd is delirious. They can hardly hear themselves think. Many, many distractions surround the star-crossed couple.

To paraphrase Eminem, his is his moment.

...You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime yo...

So, without overthinking it too much and knowing he has mere seconds to execute, he goes for it.

Only to be cruelly dissed. Publicly dismissed.

It's a tough, tough world we live in. It's not as humiliating as a guy proposing to his girlfriend at a sporting event and getting shot down. And hey, the Raptors won.

But it's up there.

The burning question remains: if there is a Game 7, will the Raptors Romeo and Juliet be in the same seats? And after all this social-media attention, will she throw the poor guy a bone?
