Rio 2016: What to watch, Day 9 (August 14th)

Towel off, everyone. The swim meet is over.

Not you, divers. You've still got some work to do. But, seriously, I'd towel off vigorously after each dunk in that pool if I were you. Really get all that water off you. Then, burn the towel in the Olympic flame, just to be sure. I know it's less green than it has been and officials say they have that giant petrie dish also known as a dive pool cleaned up to acceptable levels but I wouldn't chance it. I'd also have some independent testing done on those hot tubs and showers they've provided for you.

Alright, on to the Bolt Show.

Day 9 (Sunday, August 14th)

There will be lightning sighted in the area but no need to adhere to an inclement weather postponement policy. That's just Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, the man on the verge of some kind of sensational history making. Bolt takes on all comers - including Canada's Andre De Grasse - in the 100 metres as he attempts to make it three consecutive Olympic sprint championships. De Grasse and Bolt are both in semi-final number two and they line up at the starting line right beside each other. The semi-finals go at 8 pm ET, on CBC, with the final scheduled for 9:25 pm ET, also on CBC.

There've been some very good tennis stories brewing this week, with Puerto Rico's 22-year-old rising star Monica Puig beating Germany's Angelique Kerber to take the women's gold. On Day 9, Juan del Potro tries to punctuate his rise from injury when he takes on Wimbledon champ and defending Olympic champ Andy Murray in the men's final. Del Potro came into the Olympics as the 141st ranked men's tennis player in the world after battling injuries for most of the last two years. He knocked off number one ranked Novak Djokovic in the first round and continued his winning ways by besting Rafael Nadal in the semi's on Saturday. The men's tennis final goes at 11 am ET, on TSN. UPDATE: This event has been moved to 2:30 pm ET on TSN2.

The first Olympic golf champion in 112 years will be crowned on Day 9 as the men's event heads for the fourth and final round. There is very little chance that Canada will defend the gold medal won by George Lyon when golf was last contested at the Olympics in 1904 because Graham DeLaet finds himself ten strokes behind the leader, Justin Rose. Another Canadian, David Hearn, is sixteen strokes off the lead. Rose is being pressed by Henrik Stenson, who is just one shot behind. The leaders tee off at 9:39 am ET. Coverage on TSN2 begins at 6:30 am ET. If you're wondering, the women's event begins on Wednesday. That's when Brooke Henderson makes a bid to try and wrestle the closing ceremonies flag from Penny Oleksiak.

Canada's Jennifer Abel and Pamela Ware are both in the final of the 3 metre springboard diving event. They try to outdo each other - and the rest of the field - after joining forces earlier in the week and just missing the podium in the synchro diving event. CBC, 3pm ET.

The equestrian events get underway on Sunday and for the first time in 40 years - yes, 40 years - Canada will not have Ian Millar as a competitor. He's 69 years old and was slated to appear in his eleventh Olympics, in Rio, until his top horse was sidelined a few months ago. He's not on Team Canada, but his daughter, Amy, will make her first Olympic appearance. 9 am ET, on Sportsnet One.

Beach volleyball has reached the quarter-final stage where Canada's Sarah Pavan and Heather Bansley aim for a semi-final berth against the number one ranked German duo of Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst. 4 pm ET, TSN.
