Raising an Olympian: Jon Montgomery finds the positives with help from mom

Whether it's from his role as host of 'The Amazing Race Canada' or his memorable walk through Whistler Village with a pitcher of beer after winning the gold medal in skeleton at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, Jon Montgomery is one of Canada's most recognizable Olympians.

All of his personal and professional achievements wouldn't have been possible without his mom, Joan.

When an athlete steps onto the podium to accept their medal, it's not just the realization of a lifelong dream, but also a great a moment of pride for those most invested in their success – their parents.

Procter & Gamble Canada, who announced their official sponsorship of 12 Canadian Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls on Wednesday, released a video as part of their 'Thank You Moms' campaign that features the Montgomery's and how, among other caring acts, mother helped son through the disappointment of being left off Canada's World Cup skeleton team early on in his career.

"Shortly after a visit to Canadian Olympic Park with his mother Joan, Jon Montgomery’s whole life changed. The professional auctioneer with a thrill for adventure found a new passion and began training in skeleton. Along the way, Joan helped her son overcome hardships, and proudly watched with hometown fans as he won Gold in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games."
