Mercedes brings luxury to golf with electric golf cart with all the bells, whistles and refrigerators

Here's an expression you'll never be able to use the next time you see a flashy-looking cart on the golf course: "It's the Mercedes-Benz of golf carts."

That's because there soon will actually be a Mercedes-Benz of golf carts.

The luxury car maker has announced a new addition to its high-end vehicles: the Golf Car. The carbon-fibre beauty comes complete with a sound system, leather seats, heated windshield, refrigerator, disc brakes, GPS and LED lights.

In fact, it has so many features it officially tops the previous high standard of golf equipment: Al Czervik's tricked-out golf bag from the 1980 comedy Caddyshack.

Of course, that 36-year-old model only had a sound system, beer tower and tap, television and phone. It did have a remote-control club launcher, though, which puts it in a class of its own.

But Mercedes has even come up with its own version of that: an angled bag-holder that allows for easy withdrawal of clubs. No launcher at this point, though.

Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the Style Edition Garia Golf Car. The luxurious two-seater features a carbon fiber roof, a refrigerator under the bench seat, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen that displays vehicle information.

The Mercedes version, which will be available next year, will also come with a dashboard-mounted tablet that will display an electronic scorecard to keep golfers from getting pencil stains on their hands and Bluetooth that allows them to stream music from their cellphones through built-in speakers.

The Golf Car boasts of a 19 m.p.h. top speed and its lithium-ion battery will allow it to travel 50 miles between charges.

There's no word on how the Golf Car will enable golfers to shoot lower scores, though.

As for price, Mercedes is keeping quiet on that one for now. But these things tend not to come at discount prices.
