Kanye West to play Pan Am Games closing ceremony — tweets NBA's Anthony Bennett

We already knew that Brampton, Ontario's Anthony Bennett was a Timberwolf, but he's apparently also a newshound.

The Pan Am Games organizing committee announced Wednesday that Kanye West will be its headliner for the Closing Ceremony at Rogers Centre on July 26, along with Canadian singer Serena Ryder and the rapper Pitbull, who is Cuban-American. Ahead of the West announcement, a "leak" sprang forth from the Twitter account of Bennett, the Minnesota  Timberwolves forward.

Some people will be excited if this comes to pass, methinks. Plus it's not Drake.

Some sports nerds who haven't been too into music since Smash Mouth left the game were probably still hoping against hope that if if Anthony Bennett was going to break any news on his Twitter account, it would be that NBA rookie of the year Andrew Wiggins was joining Canada for the hoops tourney.

Anyway, Kanye West, that's a good get. it would be a boon to both the profile of the Pan Am Games and the thinkpiece industry, since that's two weeks' worth of #HotTakes about why a Canadian artist wasn't given the role. Granted, it's also two weeks for West to decide how to cover one of Gordon Lightfoot's greatest hits.
