Dunk contest wipeout; Canadian baller injures knee severely while trying slam (VIDEO)

This was painful to watch on first, second and seventh viewing. Anyone who saw the dunk contest during the Wesmen Classic basketball tournament in Winnipeg on Sunday may not remember who won, but they will remember the twist of fate that Seaton George suffered.

George might go down as a cautionary example of what can go horribly wrong when a player "wear(s) a tracksuit and running shoes for a dunk contest." After missing a reverse dunk, the Toronto native wiped out on his second try as he planted his right foot and apparently injured his right knee quite badly as he heavily crashed to the floor.

George, who played for Winnipeg last season after previously playing for Algonquin College in Ottawa, isn't on the Wesmen's active roster. That might tie in to why the 6-foot-6 forward represented the Wesmen in the dunk contest, which took place at halftime of the team's semifinal game against the cross-town rival Manitoba Bisons. There's always a certain coach's paranoia about losing a star player to injury, but who could have imagined that would happen?

At the beginning of the video, you hear a fan in the crowd say “this guy got bounce!” Unfortunately for our highflyer, things did not end well for him. All the ballers out there NEED to watch this. As a warning to always wear proper gym attire when trying to attempt a dunk! (Hoops Rant)

George's pratfall didn't throw off the Wesmen, who beat Manitoba by 12 points to advance to Tuesday's final against the powerhouse Ottawa Gee-Gees.

The Wesmen Classic is the longest-running university hoops tournament in Canada. As far as successful dunks during CIS holiday tournaments go, it's tough to top the one-handed flush that the Ryerson Rams' Yannick Walcott threw down against UQAM on Sunday.
