Canadian juniors Filip Peliwo and Eugenie Bouchard on to Wimbledon finals

Filip Peliwo is hoping that the third time's the charm. The 18-year-old from Vancouver has reached the junior finals of three straight Grand Slam events but fell short at both the Australian and French Open. On Sunday, he gets a chance to put those losses behind him when he takes on Luke Saville of Australia in the Wimbledon boy's finals on Sunday.

Peliwo spoke to the media via conference call on Friday, but couldn't offer an explanation for why he ups his game when the stakes are highest:

"To be honest I'm just trying to follow my plan when I get out there, and this year, so far, it's been going well in the Grand Slams… My game's just been coming together and [I've] just been playing the matches very well… finding ways to win. I don't really have an explanation for it."

His route to this year's finals has been exciting to say the least. In his semi-final match against Mitchell Krueger of the U.S., not only did Peliwo come back from down a set but he also saved an incredible five match points to win 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-3.

"I was a bit tight throughout the match, playing passively, not really playing well" Peliwo admitted. "During the match points I just went for my shots and started playing loose."

Saville is a familiar foe for Peliwo who fell to the Australian in his first trip to a Grand Slam final in Melbourne back in January. Peliwo knows he'll be in tough, but like a seasoned veteran, he's aware the key to victory is staying within himself.

"I'm going to have to go out there and play my game and impose my weapons over his."

Peliwo could just be the kind of player to help Milos Raonic increase the popularity of men's tennis in Canada. Not only is he winning, he handles himself well with the media and is also quite animated on the court. To boot, he has a pretty good handle on social media, tweeting his progress throughout the tournament and engaging with fans.

On the girls side, Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, QC, has also reached the junior finals at Wimbledon after defeating Anett Kontaveit of Estonia 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 in the semi-finals. She faces Elina Svitolina of Ukraine for the title.

Bouchard, however, seems to be a little more superstitious than Peliwo, declining to join him when speaking with the Canadian media.

In what will be a busy day for Bouchard, the girl's final goes Saturday morning and then later it's the girls' doubles semi-finals where she'll pair with American Taylor Townsend to take on fellow Canadian Francoise Abanda of Montreal, and Sachia Vickery of the U.S.

Abanda almost made it an all-Canadian match-up in the girl's singles finals, but lost in the semis to Svitolina 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
